GRACE O'MALLEY TRAIL: Picture 4 Murrisk Abbey

Written by Anne Chambers.

Murrisk Abbey at the foot of Croagh Patrick was built by O'Malleys for the Augustinian Friars in1457 and featured in Grace and her family's life. Many generations of her  ancestors and descendants lie buried within its ruins.

A gold chalice (now at Ballintubber Abbey) was donated to Murrisk Abbey in 1638 in memory of Grace's youngest son, Tibbot-ne-Long, Viscount Mayo who died in 1629.
