Written by Anne Chambers.

Grace O'Malley : The Biography of Ireland's Pirate Queen 1530-1603 published by Gill. This 7th edition (Spring 2009) celebrates the 30th anniversary of the publication of the original edition in 1979. The book has become a milestone in Irish publishing history having been in constant print for 30 years. Author ANNE CHAMBERS has become the catalyst for the restoration of Grace O’Malley to political, social and maritime history.

’The absence of Grace O’Malley from my school history books initially set me on my journey to find and restore her. I am happy to say that, thirty years later, from primary to third-level institutions in Ireland and abroad, Granuaile is now part of educational curricula. For that reason, in this new edition, together with some textual additions, I have included additional transcripts from 16th and 17th primary manuscript material which I discovered in the course of my research for Granuaile, in the hope that it will be of interest to students, teachers and to the general public’.
