This is the 50th anniversary of Margaret Burke Sheridan's death 1958. To commemorate the anniversary, in association with the Margaret Burke Sheridan Anniversary Committee, Anne has organised a series of public concerts, talks and exhibitions of the operatic and personal memorabilia of the famous Diva.
A TRIBUTE TO MARGARET BURKE SHERIDAN featuring sopranos Celine Byrne and Suzanne Murphy with Anne Chambers and actor Bill Golding, in the John Field Room of the NCH, Dublin on 14 May, was a sell-out. It is hoped to repeat the concert later in Autumn.
An hour-long documentary Maggie from Mayo, written and presented by Anne, was broadcast by Lyric FM on Saturday 3 May.
Anne has taken the Sheridan Exhibition to Castlebar, Dublin and DownPatrick where it forms part of the Opera Fringe Festival there until June 22 and is on public display daily at the Arts Centre from 10-am to 4pm.
In July the Exhibition travels to the Roundstone Arts Festival, Connemara where Anne will give a talk on Saturday 5 July. For details see the Roundstone Arts Festival website www.roundstone.ie
Arrangements are in train for the Exhibition to go on public display at Cork City Library later in July. See www.corkcitylibraries.ie for details.
RTE 1 Nationwide programme will broadcast a feature on the life of Margaret Burke Sheridan, presented by Anne, on Wednesday 11 June at 7pm.
It has been arranged that Lyric FM will issue a new CD featuring the arias and songs of Sheridan which will be launched this coming Autumn.
